Mandell & the Muddcatts

Johnny Mandell and the Muddcatts were great last Saturday night! If any of you were fortunate enough to be there, you got a good show. That crowd ate it up! It's just too bad that we weren't able to pack the house out for them. But that's what happens during back to school and while competing with two other big events down the street. It's only a matter of time, however, before Waco will easily sustain three big events in one night. Big thanks to Johnny and the guys! We can't wait to do it again. -- scott

No Ice

Well, I decided not to go with Vanilla Ice. Which is okay, because it looks like I am going to go with Mute Math, Jars of Clay, Sarah Groves, and Chris Rice instead. Should be a decent substitute. I'm also looking into Bowling for Soup, Anna Nalick, and John Legend. How's that sound?

Ice Ice Baby?

Well today an interesting opportunity may have come my way. That's right. I've been offered Vanilla Ice for booking. Assuming I booked him, the concert would be sometime in November likely. Tickets would be between $5 and $10. What do you think? Any interest? -- scott

Battle of the Hams?

That's right, you read correctly. Battle of the Hams. We will be hosting the first annual Battle of the Hams. So what is it? Good question. We envision it being something like a "battle of the bands" but with stand-up comedians. Right now we are in the development stage and I am negotiating with the fraternities and sororities at Baylor for their participation. We will allow up to 3 contestants per organization to perform before our panel of judges and a live audience. Entry right now is limited to social organizations at Baylor and MCC, but may be expanded later. Depending on expected participation and attendence the event should run for 3-5 days. Tickets will be cheap and available to the public. Laughs will be plentiful. And for the record, there will be a prize and it will very likely be honey-baked. -- scott

Spreadin' My Wings

So it begins. The Waco Hippodrome enters the late 90's. It's only a matter of time before we're totally up to date tech-wise. I am Scott Baker, the managing director of the Waco Hippodrome. I'm new on the job and times they are a-changin'! I'm bringing in all kinds of new shows that don't usually come to Waco. I'm talking to rock groups, authors, CCM artists, theatre groups, dance groups, comedians and every other kind of live entertainment you can imagine! This blog is meant to be used by me and y'all to get the word out about shows and events and to let you give me feedback on our programming, our shows, our magnificent staff, and any other aspect of theatre-going at the Hippo you would ever want to comment on. I want to hear your questions about the theatre, I want to hear your requests for shows and bands and events. I want to know how the Hippo can serve you. Keep checking this blog and I'll get to work on updating it as regularly as I can with new photos and a schedule of events. Eventually I'll link it up to the Hippo's official website, which right now is an embarassment! Give me a little time and I'll entertain the heck out of you! -- scott
